Thursday, February 20, 2020 the PTA and the

Rockwell STEM committee will host our annual Science Fair!

More information will be communicated

as the date approaches!

Students may explore their favorite topics by presenting one of these reports:

1. Investigation - Think of a science subject that interests you and create a hypothesis to prove right or wrong.  Use  the Investigation packet as a guideline to creating a hypothesis, getting background info together, collecting data and presenting your materials in traditional science board presentation.

2.. Information- Research a topic you enjoy or what to learn more about.  Use the Informational packet as a guideline to help you create a traditional science board presentation.

Is Science Your Thing?! We are always looking for volunteers to help the children by asking questions, setting up, helping out and handing out certificates! Contact your PTA and we will connect you with the parent volunteer chairpeople!

The Science Fair Flow - What to expect

  •  Students may work independently, with their family or peers, but each student needs to have a signed and approved permission slip. Each student must have an understanding of the completed project.

  •

  •  Any project containing liquids or substances MUST be approved.  We will call each participant  when we receive the sign up to see what is included.

  •

  •  Parents are asked to drop off their students and deliver their projects to school the morning of the science fair, Feb 20th from 8:30-8:50 in the car rider loop.  Volunteers will be on hand to help students out of the car and into the building.  Projects will be taken to the student’s class and the student is to wait in the hallway as usual before class starts.  Any participant who can not have their project dropped off via car can try to do it on the bus, or just bring it at 6:30 p.m.

  •

  • Student will be sent to set up their project in the APR and there will be volunteers to assist with setup.

  •

  • Students will rotate through the displays to view each other’s projects by grade in the afternoon. Parent volunteers will get through as many project reviews as possible at this time. Any that are not completed will be done at night.  All participants will receive a certificate, comments and suggestions from the mentor and a science fair charm.

  •

  • In the evening, peers and families are welcome to attend the Science Fair and explore the variety of projects.  We will also have a few hands on tables for all students to explore scientific principals appropriate to their age.

  •

  • Students may take home their projects to enjoy at home!
